Green packaging refers to packaging that has minimal harm to human health and the environment, and consumes less resources and energy, while meeting packaging functional requirements throughout the entire lifecycle of the packaged product.
The evaluation of green packaging system is based on the national standard GB/T 37422-2019 "Evaluation Methods and Criteria for Green Packaging" of the People's Republic of China.
The evaluation criteria for green packaging include basic requirements and evaluation index system requirements. The evaluation result of the basic requirements is whether it meets or does not meet; The evaluation result required by the evaluation index system is a score. The basic requirements include production enterprise requirements and packaging product requirements. The evaluation index system requires four types of primary indicators: resource attributes, energy attributes, environmental attributes, and product attributes, with secondary indicators set under the primary indicators. The evaluation of green packaging should first evaluate the packaging according to the basic requirements, and if the evaluation results are satisfactory, then score each item according to the evaluation index system requirements.

The basic requirements stipulate that production enterprises should establish, implement, maintain, and continuously improve their quality management system in accordance with GB/T19001; The discharge of wastewater and exhaust pollutants should comply with the relevant national and local emission standards; Advanced technologies and processes encouraged by the state should be adopted, in accordance with the requirements of the "Guiding Catalogue for Industrial Structure Adjustment", and technologies, processes, equipment, and related substances explicitly prohibited by industrial policies should not be used.
2. The basic requirements stipulate that packaged products should meet the requirements of packaging purposes and basic functions, and comply with the corresponding standards; The total content of lead, cadmium, mercury, and hexavalent chromium in packaging materials should meet the relevant requirements of GB/T16716.1; Packaging products should meet the requirements of corresponding mandatory national standards, for example, polyester (PET) beverage bottles that come into direct contact with food should comply with the provisions for PET products in GB4806.7-2016.
